4 Reasons Why Your Business Should Use Hosted Exchange

May 4th, 2011 by Andrew Jarrett

A growing number of companies are recognising the benefits of partnering with a technology provider to host their Exchange server needs and there are several good reasons for doing so.  Here are our four reasons why you should use a hosted exchange for your business.

1. Manage resources

– Save Money

As companies move from Exchange 2003 to 2007 and 2010 the level of complexity and systems required has increased dramatically resulting in additional cost.  Both small and larger businesses can make significant cost savings by migrating to Hosted Exchange and away from an onpremises Exchange environment.

– Improve Budget Management

Virtually all hosted providers commit to a fixed cost per seat over the life of an annual or multiyear contract. Therefore you know what the costs of Exchange management over the life of the contract are going to be. Onpremises deployments on the other hand, can sometimes mean new servers or appliances as a result of rapid increases in the volume of spam or the addition of new users.

- Deploy Your IT Team More Effectively

Despite the missioncritical nature of messaging, using IT staff to manage Exchange servers may not be the best of their time or talent. Instead, you could use these staff members for initiatives more valuable to the business.

2. Improved Uptime

An SLA that delivers 99.9% uptime with penalty clauses means that a hosted provider is arguably more focused on delivery than an in house IT department. The consequences for a hosted provider are greater as an outage affects all clients and they will be more diligent.

3. Better Security

Hosting Exchanges use multiple malware and spam filtering technologies, firewalls and other security measures.  These could be costprohibitive for you to deploy and support. The result of using a Hosted Exchange provider typically results in a better spam and malware capture rate, lower false positives and a reduced likelihood of malware infiltration.

4. Better Data Protection

Ensure you choose a provider within the correct jurisdiction with an understanding of Data Protection issues so that your data will be treated more securely that it may be in-house.  Exchange estates are typically established across multiple sites offering resiliency that would often be too complex or cost prohibitive for you to implement.
